For the benefit of those who are not well versed with the function of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), I am going to give a brief overview before I will talk on the application process.

About Federal Road Safety Commission Recruitment

In February 1988, the Federal Government created the Federal Road Safety Commission through Decree No. 45 of the 1988 as amended by Decree 35 of 1992 referred to in the statute books as the FRSC Act cap 141 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN). Passed by the National Assembly as Federal Road Safety Commission (establishment) Act 2007. The functions of the Commission generally relates to:

  1. Making the highway safe for motorists and other road users.
  2. Recommending works and devices designed to eliminate or minimize accidents on the highways and advising the Federal and State Governments including the Federal Capital Territory Administration and relevant governmental agencies on the localities where such works and devices are required, and
  3. Educating motorists and members of the public on the importance of discipline on the highway.

In particular, the Commission is charged with the responsibilities for:

  1. Preventing or minimizing accidents on the highway;
  2. Clearing obstructions on any part of the highways;
  3. Educating drivers, motorists and other members of the public generally on the proper use of the highways;
  4. Designing and producing the driver’s license to be used by various categories of vehicle operators;
  5. Determining, from time to time, the requirements to be satisfied by an applicant for a driver’s licence;
  6. Designing and producing vehicle number plates
  7. The standardization of highway traffic codes;
  8. Giving prompt attention and care to victims of accidents
  9. Conducting researches into causes of motor accidents and methods of preventing them and putting into use the result of such researches;
  10. Determining and enforcing speed limits for all categories of roads and vehicles and controlling the use of speed limiting devices;
  11. Cooperating with bodies or agencies or groups in road safety activities or in the prevention of accidents on the highways;
  12. Making regulations in pursuance of any of the functions assigned to the Corps by or under this Act.
  13. Regulating the use of sirens, flashers and beacon lights on vehicles other than ambulances and vehicles belonging to the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police, Fire Service and other Para-military agencies;
  14. Providing roadside and mobile clinics for the treatment of accident victims free of charge;
  15. Regulating the use of mobile phones by motorists;
  16. Regulating the use of seat belts and other safety devices;
  17. Regulating the use of motorcycles on the highway;
  18. Maintaining the validity period for drivers’ licenses which shall be three years subject to renewal at the expiration of the validity period; and

In exercise of the functions, members of the Commission shall have the power to arrest and prosecute persons reasonably suspected of having committed any traffic offense.

Available Positions for FRSC Recruitment

There are 4 different categories in the FRSC recruitment 2020. You will have to choose one below and apply.

CATEGORY A – RMA Cadre

  1. Road Marshal Assistant II.

Applicants must be holders of SSCE (WAEC/NECO) or NABTEB, two of the subjects must be English Language and Mathematics.

2. Road Marshal Assistant III.

Applicants must be holders of three (3) credits in SSCE (WAEC/NECO) or NABTEB, one of the credits must be in English Language.

3. Artisans and Tradesmen.

Artisans and Tradesmen may apply under this category. Those applying for the posts of Computer Operators, Drivers, Mechanics, Motorcycle Riders, Electricians, Instrumentalists, Tailors, Plumbers, etc must possess the following:

  1. A minimum of 4 passes in SSCE (WAEC/NECO) or NABTEB.
  2. Trade Test and or other professional Certificates.
  3. Drivers and Riders must have the appropriate class of Driver’s Licence

CATEGORY B – MI Cadre:

Marshal Inspector I.

Candidates must possess the following:

  1. Higher National Diploma (HND) in relevant disciplines.
  2. Statement of Result not beyond 5 years.

Marshal Inspector II.

Candidates must possess the following:

  1. Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE) in relevant disciplines.
  2. Registered Nurse/Midwife (RN/RM).
  3. Statement of Result not beyond 5 years.

Marshal Inspector III.

Candidates must possess the following:

  1. National Diploma (ND) in relevant disciplines.
  2. National Diploma in Community Health Extension Work.
  3. Statement of Result not beyond 5 years.

CATEGORY C – Officer Cadre:

Officer Cadre.

Candidates must possess the following:

  1. i. Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution of higher learning in any of the following disciplines; Law, Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Laboratory Science, Psychology, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Insurance/Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Information and Communication Technology, Physical and Health Education, Accounting, Management Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Mass Communication, Social Sciences and Humanities.
  2. NYSC Discharge Certificate.

CATEGORY D – Officer(MBBS) Cadre:

Officer(MBBS) Cadre.

Candidates must possess the following:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution of higher learning in Medicine
  2. NYSC Discharge Certificate.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reacted to link circulating about a purported fresh recruitment on social media.

A statement on Wednesday by Bisi Kazeem, Corps Public Education Officer, declared that FRSC was not involved in another recruitment exercise.

It said the Corps had recently concluded training of its personnel who have been commissioned as fulltime staff and deployed to various formations across the states of the Federation, including FCT.

“By this disclaimer, the general public have been warned to desist from patronising these online fraudsters who are bent on duping unsuspecting members of the public.

“Members of the public will be duly informed immediately the Corps commences recruitment into its services through appropriate media platforms including its social media handles”, the statement added.
